There is no school in Houston, and few schools in the nation, which offers as multifaceted and high quality high school education as St. John's. In my experience the teachers are a main cause of since they truly care about their students. Many of them are qualified to teach at the collegiate level, but they teach at St. John's due to a desire to connect with students on a personal level not possible in massive college lectures. Besides the teachers, the fine arts, performing arts, and athletics departments are extensive and provide quality opportunities for personal discovery rarely offered at the high school level. Most importantly, the school allows students to diversify, not settling into a niche as a creative writer or a tennis player. Instead, students can do both, and also be in the choir, dance ensemble, and/or the school newspaper. All of these opportunities set the school apart and allow students to discover themselves, making them the well rounded candidate colleges love.
