Texas Schools Directory ("we", "us", or "our") operates this website (the "Site"). This Privacy Policy explains what information we handle when you use the Site and how it is used. By using the Site, you agree to this policy.

The short version

Texas Schools Directory is a free, informational directory. We do not require accounts and do not intentionally collect personal information such as your name, email, or address. The only visitor-supplied data we store is anonymous star ratings you choose to submit. We do serve third-party advertising, which uses cookies as described below.

Information we collect

• Star ratings. When you rate a school, we store the numeric rating (1–5) associated with that school. This is anonymous and is not linked to any personal identifier. To prevent duplicate votes and let you change your rating, your own choice is remembered in your browser's local storage on your device.
• Basic technical data. Like most websites, our hosting provider and content-delivery network may automatically log standard request information (such as IP address, browser type, and pages requested) for security, performance, and abuse-prevention purposes. We do not use this to identify individuals.
• No sensitive or account data. We do not collect names, email addresses, phone numbers, payment details, or precise location, and we do not sell personal information.

Cookies and local storage

We use minimal browser storage:

• Local storage (first-party). Remembers a rating you submitted and small UI preferences on your device. This is not shared with us or third parties.
• Advertising and third-party cookies. Our advertising partners (see below) may set cookies to serve and measure ads. You can control cookies through your browser settings and the opt-out links below.

Advertising (Google AdSense)

• Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this Site or other websites.
• Google's use of advertising cookies (including the DoubleClick cookie) enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visit to this Site and/or other sites on the internet.
• You may opt out of personalized advertising by visiting Google Ads Settings. You can also opt out of some third-party vendors' use of cookies for personalized advertising at aboutads.info and Your Online Choices (EU).

Third-party services

To deliver the Site we rely on a few reputable third parties, each with its own privacy policy:

• Hosting / CDN — serves the Site and stores anonymous ratings.
• Google AdSense — advertising, as described above.
• Google Fonts — web fonts.
• Map tiles — OpenStreetMap tiles and, on some pages, an on-click Google Maps embed (loaded only when you choose to view a map).

Where our data comes from

School and district information is compiled from publicly available sources, primarily the Texas Education Agency (TEA) and the U.S. National Center for Education Statistics (NCES). This public data is about institutions, not website visitors.

Children's privacy

The Site is a general-audience directory and is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us personal information, please contact us and we will remove it.

Your choices and rights

Because we do not collect personal identifiers, we generally hold no personal data to access, correct, or delete. You can clear your browser's local storage at any time to remove your saved rating, and you can control cookies and personalized advertising using the links above. Residents of certain regions (e.g., the EEA/UK under GDPR, or California under CCPA/CPRA) have additional rights regarding personal data; you may contact us to exercise them.

Data retention and security

Anonymous ratings are retained to display aggregate scores. We take reasonable measures to protect the limited data we hold, but no method of transmission or storage is 100% secure.

Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Changes are effective when posted, and the "Last updated" date above will reflect the latest revision.
